Why can one drive-shaft seal position show several part numbers?
In the GM 6T catalog ecosystem, the same physical type of position can show several service numbers, but the relationships between those numbers are not all the same. The error begins when every number in one row or figure position is called “interchangeable.” E628–E632 show why that is unsafe.
1. Position and side are separate fields
In E628, exact 24257031 in an Aveo T300 2012 / MH9 row is printed as SEAL FRT WHL DRV SHF OIL ... (TO HSG)(RH): TO HSG is a position token and RH is a separate side token. In E632, exact 24257030 in a Cruze Hatchback 2011 row has (TO CASE) but no LH token. TO CASE therefore cannot be converted into LH, and TO HSG cannot be converted into RH.
2. OPTIONAL W/ is a parallel option only inside that application
E631 shows 24257030 with OPTIONAL W/24230715 in a specific Cruze context. A separate E640 row in a Malibu/MH8 context shows a larger group with OPTIONAL W/24230715,24260764. This is a same-position optional relation, not universal interchangeability and not a replacement chronology.
3. A figure position can display a service-number family
In E629, Cobalt figure position 013 displays 24257030 and 24257031 with groups of alternatives. That establishes a position family in that catalog. It does not establish which exact family member was factory-installed on a 2013 Cobalt.
4. NLS / USE is another relationship type
E630 [EPC-mirror status] captures NLS/USE wording in bounded MH8/other contexts. That is a directed mirror-status field, but it is not permission to write “GM officially superseded the part.” Source and application context must stay attached to the claim.
